Gynecologic Health
Cervical Cancer Screening
Starting at age 21 to 65 year old persons with a cervix should get a pap smear every 3-5 years (regardless of onset of sexual intercourse, number of sexual partners and/or types of partners).
My office performs co-testing which looks for both:
HPV (human papilloma virus)-the virus that causes cervical cancer
Cytology (cells)-screening for dysplasia (aka precancer)
Mammogram Screenings
Typically around ages 40-75 years old patients should receive an annual screening mammogram.
Screening at an earlier age depends on a variety of risk factors (ie lesion/mass self discovered or on clinical chest exam and/or strong family history of breast cancer)
Additional imaging modalities are available (if appropriate)
MRI and/or ultrasound
conditions not best suitable for mammogram
